The newly constructed 375-bed jail contains cells and dormitories to house inmates from Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren counties. Additionally, the design includes necessary mechanical and plumbing systems to serve the medical services area, and full-service kitchen and laundry programs within the facility. The building is constructed of mostly precast concrete jail cells with rear chases for mechanical and plumbing systems installed by ColonialWebb. The scope included a unique sanitary vacuum system that replaces a standard gravity waste system that can be problematic in jails. The plumbing system also includes a computer-controlled domestic water system to provide staff members with the ability to regulate proper usage.
