Golden Anniversary Giveback Q1 Update

Charlottesville Volunteer Team

Q1 was a busy quarter for our CW teams! The Golden Anniversary Giveback Program hit the ground running and throughout January, February and March, teammates volunteered their time and resources to their chosen organizations in planning golf tournaments, cleaning and painting, cooking and serving, installing mechanical systems, and participating in career and reading days.

In February, Kelly Carey and the Charlottesville team had an extraordinary time when they visited Valley Mission to cook and serve more than 70 residents. Kelly said, “there is nothing more satisfying than knowing the organization you work for values your skillset to provide a service to our customers and help those in the community that may be experiencing a time of need.” Additionally, the Charlottesville team spent some time installing a new dual-fan HP system (donated by Aireco) for a local family in need.

Also, this past quarter, Ashley Kierzek, Mark Eves, and the Chesapeake team were busy at EdMarc painting walls and replacing electrical outlets, light switches, and thermostats. Over three days, the team transformed the space into a beautiful, functional facility. Ashley said, “hearing what families had to say about the importance of organizations like EdMarc truly makes you appreciate and understand the bigger purpose. I am proud to work for a company that prioritizes giving back.”

In March, Maryfrances Betts and the Glen Burnie team completed two projects for Disability Partnerships. The first project was for a gentleman with Parkinson’s disease who needed to safely get up and down the stairs. The team extended hand railings on the basement stairs and added tread on the steps so he wouldn’t slip. They also mounted a grab bar in the shower and installed grab bars at various levels on the side of the bed to make it easier to get in and out. The second project was installing a wheelchair ramp to transition from the house to the garage so the resident could safely get in a vehicle. Fun fact – Our team built the ramp in the shop! Said MaryFrances, “working for a company that allows us to be of service to the people in the community and to see the looks on some of the faces when we show up to help has been incredible. It truly is a giveback!”

During Q1, the Newport News team was busy at Faith Recovery repairing exhaust fans, HVAC systems, walk-in coolers, and dryer ducts at their Newport News location. Faith Recovery has also secured a new location where the team performed surveys and recommended repairs when they are ready to relocate. Said Michelle Rivers, Golden Anniversary Giveback Program Advocate, “working for a company that encourages teammates to give back to the community shows why CW is the gold standard that all other contractors should strive to be. It’s all about community and the difference we make for the people.”

And finally, in March, our Richmond team participated in Dumbarton Elementary School’s Career Day. Students were treated to displays, demonstrations, and discussions about our industry. Seven CW teammates from different business areas (virtual and live) gave students an up-close and personal view of their occupations and shared the required skills for success in their careers. Students asked questions and even participated in some hands-on demonstrations. Said Vickie Reid, “I think we may have some future teammates over here at Dumbarton!”

None of this would be possible without the passion and dedication of our nearly 900 talented teammates. But we know this story is not about us – it’s about the communities where we live and work. We are proud and humbled to be part of their stories, to learn from and celebrate their successes. We are even more excited about the fantastic things happening in Q2 and look forward to sharing those stories soon!
